Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has annulled the results of the recently concluded Civil Service Commission recruitment exercise following severe allegations of irregularities and extortion, government sources confirmed on Saturday.
The cancelled recruitment, which reportedly saw more than 4,000 candidates employed, had been touted as one of the largest in the state’s history. However, protests and complaints from applicants soon overshadowed the process, with many accusing officials of manipulating results and selling job slots to the highest bidders.
Several candidates who met all requirements and passed screening stages told Daily Frontier that their names were omitted from the final selection, while some individuals with no prior involvement in the exercise were listed as successful candidates. One applicant described the process as “a complete scam,” alleging that applicants paid between ₦500,000 and ₦700,000 for positions they ultimately did not secure.
In response to the outcry, Governor Fintiri directed the immediate cancellation of the recruitment outcome and approved the setting up of a panel to investigate the entire process, including shortlisting, screening, and final selection. A senior government official said Fintiri pledged to hold accountable anyone found guilty of misconduct, emphasizing his administration’s intolerance for exploitation and corruption.
Civil society organisations and rights advocates have welcomed the governor’s decision, describing it as a necessary corrective action in a system frequently criticised for lack of transparency.
