Nigerians will not need new tax identification numbers to maintain or operate their bank accounts, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has clarified.
Addressing rising public concerns, an FIRS representative explained that the TIN already issued to individuals and companies is sufficient for both tax and banking purposes. The official emphasized that the agency’s intention is not to burden taxpayers with multiple registrations but to streamline operations and strengthen transparency in the financial system.
This assurance follows recent debates around banking regulations and compliance measures introduced under the government’s revenue drive.
