The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, remains presumed innocent as his trial over alleged misappropriation of ₦80.2 billion continues before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The anti-graft agency made the clarification amid public reactions to Bello’s ongoing prosecution, emphasizing that only the court has the authority to determine guilt or innocence. The EFCC said its role is limited to presenting evidence and witnesses in line with due process.
Bello is facing multiple charges bordering on money laundering and diversion of public funds during his tenure as governor. He has consistently denied the allegations.
The commission also dismissed claims that the case is politically motivated, stressing that its actions are guided strictly by law and evidence. The trial is ongoing, with further hearings expected as the court proceedings continue
