The Department of State Services (DSS) has ordered an internal investigation into the actions of its operatives following an incident involving activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, at a court session in Abuja.
The development comes after a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered Sowore’s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his application challenging the revocation of his bail.
The DSS said it is reviewing the conduct of the officers involved after reports and videos emerged showing operatives forcefully escorting Sowore from the courtroom following the court proceedings.
The investigation is expected to determine whether the officers acted in accordance with established operational procedures and professional standards. The incident has generated public reactions and renewed discussions about the treatment of defendants during judicial proceedings.
Sowore, a prominent activist and former presidential candidate, is currently being held at the Kuje Correctional Centre while awaiting further court proceedings related to his bail application.
