The Dangote Refinery has announced it will no longer sell petrol in the Nigerian currency, effective Sunday, September 28, 2025.
In a notice to marketers, the refinery’s Group Commercial Operations team explained that the company had exhausted its crude oil allocations priced in naira, making it unsustainable to continue transactions in the local currency.
“We can no longer sustain PMS sales in Naira,” the memo stated. Customers with active naira-based transactions have been advised to request refunds.
The refinery assured that updates would be provided once sales in the local currency resume.
The announcement comes amid growing tensions at the facility, as labour unions accuse management of terminating more than 800 Nigerian workers. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) condemned the mass layoffs on Friday.
