Nigerian socialite and celebrity bartender, Cubana Chief Priest, has expressed deep regret for not fulfilling his late mother’s dream for him to become a Catholic priest.
In a tribute shared on Instagram ahead of the tenth anniversary of his mother’s death, Cubana Chief Priest revealed that his mother had promised God her son would serve Him after struggling for more than six years to conceive.
He explained that his mother named him Chibuike, meaning “God is my strength,” following a complicated pregnancy. His elder brother was earlier named Onyinyechukwu (Gift from God).
Cubana Chief Priest disclosed that he attempted to gain admission into a seminary to honour his mother’s vow but was unsuccessful.
“Growing up, my mom wanted me to be a Catholic priest so bad because she promised God that her child will serve Him while she searched for the fruit of the womb for over six years,” he wrote.
“Next year will make it 10 years I lost my mom, and everyone who knows my real story will testify that after she made it to heaven, my story changed for good.”
The socialite said that despite his achievements in fame, wealth, and family life, he continues to carry the guilt of disappointing his mother’s wish.
“She wanted to be called Mama Father, but rather I became the ChiefPriest,” he added. “Every day I live with the guilt that I disappointed my mama by not becoming a Catholic priest. But fact remains that I’m still doing God’s work.”
He further revealed plans to release a thanksgiving Catholic song in her honour, adding that he would share the track once it garners 1,000 comments.
