The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately keeping former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in custody as part of a broader strategy to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement, the ADC alleged that El-Rufai’s continued detention is politically motivated and aimed at silencing prominent opposition figures. The party argued that such actions threaten Nigeria’s democratic principles and could undermine public confidence in the country’s political process.
The opposition party called on the relevant authorities to ensure that the rule of law is upheld and that justice is administered without political interference. It also urged the government to respect the rights of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.
The APC has not officially responded to the allegations at the time of this report.
