Tragedy struck in northern Pakistan on Monday after an army MI-17 helicopter went down during a routine training flight, leaving all five personnel on board dead.According to a military statement, the aircraft developed a technical fault midair before crashing.
The victims included two pilots, two crew members, and a flight engineer.Local police in Diamer district, Gilgit Baltistan, where the crash occurred around 10:00 am (0500 GMT), said the chopper went down while attempting a test landing on a newly proposed helipad.
This is the second MI-17 crash in recent weeks. Just last month, another government helicopter carrying out flood relief operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province crashed, killing five servicemen.
Pakistan has witnessed a string of deadly military air accidents in recent years. In 2022, a crash in Balochistan claimed the lives of five officers, including one of the army’s senior commanders, during relief operations.(Source: AFP)
