The Nigerian military has reportedly uncovered ₦45 billion linked to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the course of its ongoing investigation into an alleged coup plot.
According to reports, the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) traced the funds to several politically exposed persons and military officers currently under interrogation over the alleged plan to destabilize President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Sources said the money was tied to a shoreline protection project awarded to a former South-South governor, with payments allegedly made to companies and individuals connected to some of the officers being investigated.
The development has heightened tension within the NDDC, as top officials of the commission have been questioned over the disbursement and management of the funds.
Former Bayelsa State governor, Timipre Sylva, whose Abuja residence was reportedly searched by security operatives, has denied any involvement in the alleged plot, describing the accusations as politically motivated.
Meanwhile, military authorities have maintained that the detained officers are being questioned for professional misconduct and not a coup attempt.
The revelation has drawn renewed attention to the management of public funds within the NDDC, an agency long plagued by allegations of corruption and mismanagement.
