
SAO PAULO, BRAZIL — Tragedy struck in São Paulo’s Ipiranga neighbourhood after a mother and her daughter died from suspected food poisoning linked to a birthday cake they had eaten.
According to local reports, the cake was delivered a day after a family celebration. Shortly after consuming it, the 21-year-old daughter reportedly collapsed and died at home. Her mother, who also ate the cake, was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to complications.
A 16-year-old family member who also tasted the cake survived and remains under medical observation.
Brazilian authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, treating it as a case of double homicide and attempted murder by poisoning. The cake has been sent for forensic analysis to determine the substance responsible for the deaths.
Police say no arrests have been made yet, but efforts are ongoing to trace the origin of the cake and identify those responsible for its delivery.
