Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has argued that some Nigerians earning £2,600 per month in the United Kingdom may have a lower standard of living than individuals earning ₦60,000 in Nigeria due to the high cost of living abroad.
Bwala said expenses such as housing, transportation, taxes and other essential living costs significantly reduce the disposable income of many Nigerians residing in the UK, despite their seemingly higher earnings.
According to him, income should be assessed alongside living expenses rather than being compared solely on exchange rates or salary figures.
His remarks have generated discussions on the impact of the rising cost of living in the UK and the economic realities faced by Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
