The Senate has urged the Federal Government to end its rehabilitation programme for repentant Boko Haram members, citing growing security concerns following the recent abduction and killing of military personnel.
The resolution was reached on Tuesday after lawmakers adopted an additional prayer during a debate on the country’s worsening security situation.
Senators argued that the continued rehabilitation of former insurgents has become increasingly controversial, especially amid renewed attacks by armed groups, and called on the government to review its approach to tackling insurgency.
The lawmakers maintained that strengthening security measures and ensuring justice for victims should remain a priority in the fight against terrorism.
