At least 12 people have died in a tragic accident on the Yangoji–Abuja corridor, when a speeding truck collided with vehicles parked at a roadside motor park, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed on Sunday.
The FRSC said the crash occurred around 11:45 a.m. at Gada Biyu, when a heavy-duty truck reportedly lost control due to excessive speed and rammed into a Ford Sharon bus and two Volkswagen Golf cars, causing a multiple-vehicle collision.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, providing first aid and evacuating the injured to Abaji General Hospital. Among the 18 people involved, 12 died either at the scene or later in hospital, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The FRSC has handed the case to the Motor Traffic Division of the Kwali police for further investigation and urged motorists, particularly heavy vehicle drivers, to comply with speed limits and traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents.
Authorities described the crash as tragic but avoidable, emphasizing continued efforts to improve road safety along major expressways in the Federal Capital Territory.
