Young Watchman Arrested After Fatal Clash at Gombe Government House

19-year-old casual worker, identified as Shuaibu Adamu, has been arrested in connection with the death of a fellow staff member at the Gombe State Government House grounds, the Gombe State Police Command confirmed.

According to a statement from DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer, officers were dispatched to the Government House complex around 3:50 p.m. on Friday, December 26, following a distress call reporting a suspected incident.

The victim, identified as Mallam Umar, also known as “Baba Usama,” was a casual staff member employed as a borehole operator at the Government House. He was found motionless within the premises and rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe, where a medical doctor pronounced him dead.

Police said preliminary findings indicated suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. CCTV footage reviewed by investigators reportedly showed Adamu assaulting Umar, after which the suspect fled the scene.

A coordinated police operation led to the suspect’s arrest later that night at about 11:00 p.m. in Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe. During preliminary interrogation, Adamu confessed to the crime, authorities stated.


The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, and further investigations are ongoing as police prepare to prosecute in accordance with the law.


The Gombe State Police Command affirmed its commitment to ensuring justice and enhancing safety around government facilities.
