Two lawyers have formally withdrawn from the ongoing case filed by an aide to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf against investigative journalist Jaafar Jaafar. The lawyers alleged that their names were fraudulently included in the legal team handling the matter.
In a statement, the lawyers explained that they were surprised to see their names listed as part of the legal counsel for the governor’s aide without their knowledge or consent. They accused Barrister Dantani of inserting their names in court documents and public records, an action they described as “unethical and fraudulent.”
The lawyers emphasized that they had no involvement in the defamation suit against Jaafar Jaafar and disassociated themselves from all legal processes connected to it. They further urged the public and the court to disregard any impression that they were representing the complainant in the matter.
The development has sparked reactions within legal circles, with observers raising concerns over professional misconduct and the credibility of the case.
The case itself stems from allegations against Jaafar Jaafar, who has a history of exposing corruption and malpractice among public officials in Nigeria.
