Trump Says New Iran Deal Will Block Nuclear Weapons, Reopen Hormuz Strait

U.S. President Donald Trump has defended a proposed new agreement with Iran, describing it as a stronger alternative to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal negotiated under former President Barack Obama.

In a statement released on Saturday, Trump claimed the agreement would permanently prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and announced that the deal is expected to be signed on Sunday. He said the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened to international shipping immediately after the agreement takes effect.

Trump argued that, unlike the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which he criticized as ineffective, the new arrangement would ensure Iran cannot acquire nuclear weapons through development, purchase, or any other means. He also stated that no funds would be transferred to Iran under the proposed agreement.

The U.S. president further said Washington would eventually oversee the removal and destruction of Iran’s remaining nuclear material once conditions stabilize, adding that the United States looks forward to building a more constructive relationship with Iran and the wider Middle East.

However, Iranian officials have expressed caution over Trump’s timeline, with reports indicating that Tehran has not confirmed the deal will be signed on Sunday, although negotiations remain ongoing.

Trump concluded by expressing hope that the process would proceed peacefully but warned that the United States retains other options should the agreement fail.
