Stop Airport Staff from Soliciting Money from Travellers, Senator Tells Aviation Minister

A member of the Nigerian Senate has urged the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to take decisive steps to stop airport officials from begging and extorting travellers across the country’s airports.

The senator made the call during a plenary session, expressing concern over the growing cases of unprofessional conduct by airport staff who openly solicit money from passengers.

He noted that such acts tarnish Nigeria’s image before international visitors and could discourage tourism and foreign investment. The lawmaker therefore appealed to Keyamo to enforce stricter discipline among airport personnel and ensure that relevant agencies maintain professional standards.

In response, the aviation ministry has been urged to work closely with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other stakeholders to restore order and integrity to airport operations.

The senator’s remarks have sparked renewed conversations about accountability, ethics, and service delivery within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
