A tragic incident unfolded on Monday at a military checkpoint in Lagos State when a mentally unstable man overpowered a soldier, seized his AK-47 rifle, and fatally shot him.
The attack occurred at Adeogun Bridge in the Agbowa area along the Ikorodu Expressway. Security sources told SaharaReporters that the suspect approached the checkpoint unexpectedly, snatched the weapon from the soldier, and fired at him at close range.
Authorities say the situation was brought under control shortly after, though details about the suspect’s condition or arrest have not yet been made public.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful as calls were neither answered nor returned.
The incident comes amid heightened security concerns following reports that Brigadier General M. Uba was abducted by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters days earlier.
