Retired police officers across the country have renewed their demand for a complete withdrawal from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), citing hardship and unfair treatment under the current arrangement.
The retirees, under the aegis of the Concerned Police Retirees, lamented that the scheme has subjected them to severe economic difficulties since its implementation, with many unable to meet basic needs due to irregular and insufficient pension payments.
They appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to expedite legislative measures that would ensure their total exit from the CPS and transition them to the defined benefits scheme like their counterparts in other security agencies.
According to the group, the contributory scheme has failed to guarantee their welfare after years of service to the nation, adding that several efforts to engage relevant authorities had yielded no tangible results.
They vowed to continue pressing for their demand until the government addresses what they described as “a lingering injustice against retired police personnel.”
