The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully recovered two luxury vehicles stolen from the Netherlands and shipped to Nigeria.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the vehicles were traced to Lagos and Akwa Ibom States after being stolen from Amsterdam and Midden-Nederland.
According to Hundeyin, the stolen cars were transported from the Port of Antwerp in Belgium and arrived at the Apapa Port, Lagos, in late 2023.
He said, “Following the recovery, the Nigeria Police Force, through INTERPOL NCB Abuja, instituted civil forfeiture proceedings at the Federal High Court, Abuja. Upon the conclusion of due legal processes, the Court granted a final forfeiture order in favour of the Government of the Netherlands through the vehicles’ insurance company, thereby facilitating their lawful repatriation.”
The police on Monday officially handed over the vehicles to representatives of the insurance company and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Abuja.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the INTERPOL NCB Abuja team for their professionalism and effective collaboration with international partners, especially INTERPOL NCB The Hague, in ensuring the successful recovery and restitution of the stolen vehicles.
