Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has dismissed as false American TV host Bill Maher’s claim that half a million Christians have been killed in Nigeria.
Omokri, in a statement on Sunday, described the figure as baseless and contradicted by global security data, citing the 2024 Global Terrorism Index, which recorded 8,352 terror-related deaths in Nigeria last year.
He stressed that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of insecurity, noting ACLED records showing 13,485 deaths between 2010 and 2023, with Muslims forming the majority.
Omokri warned against what he called propaganda designed to fuel religious division, adding that Maher’s claims were “wild and dangerous.”
Other Nigerian commentators, including Femi Fani-Kayode and presidential aide Dada Olusegun, also rejected Maher’s genocide assertion.
