Governor Siminalayi Fubara has suffered another political setback after the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives screening committee reportedly disqualified three serving lawmakers loyal to him from participating in the party’s primaries scheduled for Friday.
The affected lawmakers are Hon. Anderson Alisson, Hon. Abiante Awaji-Inombek, and Hon. Boma Goodhead, all of whom were identified as allies of the Rivers State governor.
In contrast, the screening committee cleared several politicians believed to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, including Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Others cleared by the committee include Hon. Hart Cyril, Hon. Blessing Amadi, Hon. Dumnamene Dekor, Hon. Solomon Bob, Hon. Uche Felix Nwaeke, and Hon. Victor Chukwuemele Obuzor.
Amaewhule is expected to replace Hon. O.K. Chinda, who reportedly purchased the APC governorship nomination forms.
Sources also revealed that other loyalists of the FCT minister were cleared to replace the three disqualified lawmakers ahead of the primaries.
The disqualified lawmakers were among those who backed Governor Siminalayi Fubara during the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State. They were also said to be among the four lawmakers who defected alongside the governor to the APC.
Meanwhile, the fourth lawmaker in the group, Boniface Sunday Emerengwa, is reportedly seeking a Senate ticket, although the final list of candidates is yet to be officially released.
