The Federal Government has announced the official commencement of the school feeding programme in Kano State under the Renewed Hope–National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH–NHGSFP).
The programme, which was relaunched as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to tackle child malnutrition, boost school enrollment, and improve learning outcomes among primary school pupils across the country.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony in Kano, government officials explained that the RH–NHGSFP will provide one nutritious meal per day to pupils in public primary schools, using food sourced directly from local farmers. This home-grown model is intended to stimulate local agricultural production and empower women and small-scale food vendors who are engaged as cooks and suppliers.
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, which oversees the programme, stated that the renewed school feeding scheme aligns with the administration’s broader strategy to reduce poverty and enhance human capital development nationwide.
Officials further noted that Kano is one of the pilot states for the programme’s renewed phase, with plans to gradually expand to other states in the coming months.
