The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has launched an intensive manhunt for the suspects who raided a male students’ hostel associated with Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic (BUPoly), Hadejia.
According to ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, spokesperson of the command, the armed assailants stormed the hostel located along the Hadejia-Malam Madori road during the night, wielding knives and dispossessing students of mobile phones and other valuables.
He explained that although no arrests have been made so far, the NSCDC has intensified patrols and intelligence gathering within and around the polytechnic community. Security checkpoints have also been reinforced in the area to deter further attacks.
Tijjani described the culprits as local criminals who exploited the cover of night to target the students. He appealed for public cooperation, stressing that credible information from residents would be vital to apprehending the attackers.
The incident has heightened fears among students and residents, with calls for improved security around off-campus hostels to prevent similar raids in the future.
