A civic-watchdog group, MonITNG, has accused the contractors tasked with refurbishing a primary healthcare centre in Ganakakum Health Clinic (Warawa LGA, Kano State) of delivering only superficial repairs despite a ₦32.9 billion fund release under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
During a visit in August 2025, the group’s “Tracka” team found that rather than carry out comprehensive structural repairs, the contractor had merely repainted walls and replaced windows and doors while a leaking roof remained unaddressed.
The poor renovation, deemed “shoddy” and “cosmetic,” has rendered the clinic unsafe for patients with each rainfall reportedly disrupting facility operations and endangering health workers and patients alike.
MonITNG is demanding immediate accountability. The group has called on the Federal Ministry of Health and National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) to deploy an independent monitoring and evaluation team to inspect all BHCPF-funded projects before further disbursements are approved.
The organisation also urged the government to publish a detailed breakdown of how the ₦32.9 billion is being spent specifying which facilities benefit and what measurable improvements are expected warning that repainted walls cannot substitute for safe, functional health infrastructure.
