Armed bandits have abducted the Chairman of the Zamfara State Council of Scholars, Mallam Sadis Isa, along with several others, along a major highway in the state.
The victims were reportedly ambushed on Wednesday while travelling along the Zamfara–Sokoto highway, a route notorious for frequent bandit attacks. Eyewitnesses said the assailants blocked the road, forcing several vehicles to stop before whisking away the cleric and others into the nearby forest.
As of the time of filing this report, the gunmen have yet to contact the families or authorities to make any ransom demands.
Security operatives have since been deployed to the area to track down the attackers and rescue the abducted victims.
The incident has heightened tension among residents, who have repeatedly called on the government to intensify efforts in tackling banditry and restoring safety on major roads across the state.
