The Anambra State Government has officially denied claims suggesting that First Lady Dr. Nonye Soludo was involved in a ₦38 million contract awarded at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).
The allegations had implicated Mrs. Chinwe Umerie, a Special Senior Assistant (SSA) and the APGA deputy state women leader, asserting that she received the contract through her company, Autograph & Events Planning, allegedly on behalf of the First Lady.
In a statement on Monday, Daniel Ezeigwe, Senior Media Aide to the Governor, clarified that there is no office of the First Lady in Anambra State and no SSA works for Mrs. Soludo. He described the claims as “baseless” and a deliberate attempt by opposition elements to tarnish the First Lady’s reputation.
The statement also addressed concerns surrounding the honorary doctorate degree awarded to Mrs. Soludo by COOU, stressing that such awards are decided solely by the university’s Senate and governing council, not by the Vice Chancellor or the First Lady.
Authorities reaffirmed that any contract awards or government engagements are strictly governed by established procedures, underscoring transparency in public office dealings.
