The Federal Government has set a target of generating ₦2.5 trillion in internally generated revenue in 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen public finances and improve revenue collection across government institutions.
The Acting Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), Charles Abana, disclosed the target during a meeting between the commission’s management and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chris Ugwuegbulam, the new revenue goal follows the commission’s monitoring of approximately ₦1.84 trillion generated by federal ministries, departments, agencies, and government-owned enterprises as of September 2025.
Abana explained that the commission intends to achieve the 2026 target by intensifying oversight of operating surpluses from government-owned enterprises and improving monitoring of revenues generated by ministries, departments, and agencies.
He said the commission’s enhanced monitoring framework had already identified nearly ₦1.84 trillion in revenue by September 2025, adding that the agency is now focused on increasing that figure to ₦2.5 trillion in 2026 as part of the Federal Government’s broader fiscal sustainability agenda under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
