Suspected bandits have reportedly killed four people, including an imam, and abducted 12 others during a late-night attack on Illela Dawagware village in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to residents, the attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on Sunday when approximately 30 armed men riding on nine motorcycles stormed the community. The assailants reportedly fired sporadically, creating panic as residents fled for safety.
Witnesses said the gunmen operated in the village for nearly 30 minutes before escaping with 12 abducted residents. Four people, including the community’s imam, were reportedly killed during the assault.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over the persistent insecurity in parts of Sokoto State, where communities continue to face recurring attacks, kidnappings, and killings by armed groups.
