A jury in Texas, United States, has convicted Nigerian Catholic priest, Anthony Odiong, on charges of sexually assaulting women who sought spiritual guidance from him.
According to reports, the verdict was delivered by a 12-member jury comprising eight women and four men, which found the priest guilty of sexual assault following trial proceedings in Texas.
Odiong, who serves under the Diocese of Uyo, now faces the possibility of a life sentence for a first-degree felony conviction, while the second-degree charge carries a potential prison term of up to 20 years under Texas law.
Sentencing is expected to take place at a later date.
