Thai authorities have arrested six Nigerian nationals for allegedly operating a romance scam network accused of defrauding several victims through online schemes.
The suspects were apprehended during a police operation tagged “Dark Room Crackdown” carried out in Nonthaburi Province, Thailand. Authorities said the raid targeted an organised cyber fraud syndicate believed to be involved in romance and investment scams.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly created fake online identities to establish romantic relationships with unsuspecting victims before persuading them to send money under false pretences.
Police said several electronic devices, including mobile phones, laptops and financial records, were recovered during the operation. Officials added that the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and may face prosecution under Thailand’s cybercrime and fraud laws.
Authorities further disclosed that the operation forms part of a broader crackdown on transnational cybercrime networks operating within the country.
