The investigation reveals that many migrants fleeing poverty, conflict, and insecurity in their home countries are subjected to inhumane treatment while attempting to reach Europe through North Africa. Victims described their ordeal as a “journey of hell,” marked by physical violence, sexual abuse, and detention in overcrowded facilities.
Survivors recounted being held by traffickers and armed groups, forced to work without pay, and threatened with death if ransom demands were not met. Women and children were reported to be particularly vulnerable to exploitation and assault.
