The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a major breakthrough with the seizure of 30 kilograms of heroin concealed inside coffee packs at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
According to the agency, the illicit drugs were discovered during routine screening of luggage belonging to a Brazilian national attempting to traffic the substance through the airport. NDLEA operatives uncovered the heroin after a thorough inspection revealed suspicious packaging of coffee consignments, which were later confirmed to contain the prohibited drug.
The suspect was immediately arrested and is currently in NDLEA custody, where investigations are ongoing to uncover the network behind the attempted smuggling and determine the intended destination of the drugs.
NDLEA officials described the seizure as a significant success in the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat international drug trafficking and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening surveillance and enforcement at Nigeria’s entry and exit points.
