The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was on Monday involved in a tense confrontation with soldiers over access to a disputed parcel of land in Abuja.
A viral video circulating on social media shows the minister being stopped by military personnel from entering the site, prompting a heated exchange between his security aides and the soldiers on guard.
Eyewitnesses said the altercation began when Wike’s convoy attempted to gain entry into the property, but armed soldiers reportedly blocked the road, insisting that the land was under military control. The situation quickly escalated, with both sides exchanging words before senior officers intervened to prevent a further breakdown of order.
The FCT Administration has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, while military authorities have also remained silent. The confrontation adds to ongoing tensions surrounding land ownership and encroachment in parts of the nation’s capital.
