Reps Debate Kanu’s Health, Abia Assembly Moves to Stage Solidarity Rally

Abuja / Umuahia, Nigeria

The House of Representatives on Tuesday deliberated on a motion concerning the deteriorating health of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The motion, sponsored by lawmakers sympathetic to Kanu’s cause, called on relevant authorities to grant him immediate access to comprehensive medical treatment. Lawmakers stressed that the right to healthcare is fundamental and should not be denied, even to detainees.

Meanwhile, the Abia State House of Assembly has announced plans to stage a peaceful rally in Abuja to demand the activist’s release and highlight growing concerns over his health condition.

The rally, according to the assembly, aims to pressurize the Federal Government to comply with court rulings related to Kanu’s case and ensure his welfare in custody.

Human rights groups and Kanu’s supporters have repeatedly raised alarm over his alleged ill health, urging the Department of State Services (DSS) to make his medical report public.
