Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has inaugurated the Diamond New Energy Projects in Nasarawa State, one of Africa’s leading lithium processing facilities and mining companies.
Speaking during the commissioning, Shettima said the investment underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to job creation, skills development, and establishing Nigeria as a major player in the global critical minerals industry.
He noted that lithium and other solid minerals have become increasingly valuable in the modern economy, serving as key components in electric vehicle batteries, renewable energy storage systems, and other emerging technologies.
The Vice President said the government is focused on ending the export of raw minerals by encouraging local processing, value addition, and industrial growth, with the aim of ensuring Nigeria derives greater economic value from its mineral resources.
The project forms part of the Tinubu administration’s wider efforts to diversify the economy and expand the solid minerals sector under its Renewed Hope Agenda.
