At least 77 countries either boycotted or walked out during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly, in protest against Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
The 41-minute speech on Friday was delivered to a visibly reduced audience. Nations absent included Israel’s regional neighbors Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, along with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Iran.Israeli officials clarified that while some countries formally staged walkouts as Netanyahu began speaking, others simply chose not to attend the session.
According to reports, Jordan and Egypt did not take their seats, while Pakistan’s delegation walked out before later returning to listen.
In contrast, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, signatories of the Abraham Accords, remained in the hall.The mass absence underscores Israel’s growing diplomatic isolation as criticism mounts over its ongoing war in Gaza, which has drawn widespread condemnation due to the scale of civilian casualties and humanitarian suffering.
