The Nigerian Senate has confirmed former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (retd.), as the new Minister of Defence following a five-hour screening session on Tuesday.
Musa, who was nominated by President Bola Tinubu after the resignation of former minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, appeared before lawmakers where he answered questions on national security, defence reforms, and ongoing military operations across the country.
Senators expressed confidence in his experience and leadership record, noting his previous role overseeing the Armed Forces as CDS. His confirmation was eventually approved by a majority voice vote.
With the Senate’s approval, General Musa is expected to assume office immediately and lead efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture amid rising concerns over violence and insurgency in several regions.
