The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled its former national chairman, Shehu Gabam, alongside other senior officials, over alleged financial misappropriation, misconduct, and abuse of office.
The decision was announced on Thursday following a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), which ratified the findings of an independent disciplinary committee and a subsequent white paper review.
Speaking at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, SDP National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, said the move came after months of internal investigations and disciplinary hearings.
According to Aiyenigba, Gabam, National Youth Leader Chukwuma Uchechukwu, and National Auditor Clarkson Nnadi were earlier suspended on June 24 after a prima facie case of misconduct and financial impropriety was established against them.
“To ensure due process, the party constituted an independent disciplinary committee on July 4, 2025, which carried out a two-week investigation and submitted its findings on July 18, 2025,” he said.
Aiyenigba added that the NWC reviewed and adopted the committee’s white paper on August 15, 2025, leading to the formal expulsion of the affected officials.
