Nationwide Crackdown Ordered On Unauthorized Police Escorts As IGP Enforces Tinubu’s Directive

The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has reportedly ordered the immediate arrest of police officers providing escort duties to VIPs without proper authorization, according to a report by Sahara Reporters.

The directive, the outlet states, follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s instruction aimed at strengthening discipline within the Nigeria Police Force and curbing misuse of police personnel for private security services.

Sahara Reporters notes that the IGP has mandated police formations across the country to launch enforcement operations targeting officers found escorting individuals without official approval. The move is intended to realign police manpower with operational and public-security needs.

As of the time of the report, the police authorities had not issued a detailed public statement on the enforcement measures.
