The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has advised newly inducted medical doctors at the University of Ibadan (UI) to remain in the country and contribute to the training of future health professionals.
Speaking during the induction ceremony held at the university, the Registrar of the Council emphasised the need for the young doctors to channel their expertise toward strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system rather than seeking opportunities abroad.
She noted that medical education in Nigeria meets international standards, stressing that doctors trained in the country are competent and capable of excelling anywhere in the world. The Registrar, however, maintained that retaining medical talent locally was crucial for improving healthcare delivery and mentoring upcoming practitioners.
The event marked the formal admission of new medical graduates into the profession. The MDCN used the occasion to remind them of their professional responsibilities and the importance of national service in addressing Nigeria’s growing health challenges.
The ceremony also featured officials of the university, family members, and representatives from the health sector who commended the inductees for their dedication and urged them to uphold the ethics of the medical profession.
