A fire on Monday destroyed the radio studio of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) in Oyo State, causing extensive damage to equipment and property valued in millions of naira.
The blaze reportedly started due to an electrical surge from the studio’s air-conditioning system, which quickly spread before fire personnel could contain it.Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed that the fire was brought under control before it could spread to other parts of the campus.
He stressed the importance of having functional fire extinguishers and safety measures to prevent similar incidents.No casualties were reported in the incident, which comes amid a series of recent fires in the region, including one at Fresh FM’s headquarters in Ibadan on August 16, 2025.
As of now, the university management has not released an official statement on the fire or the next steps for restoring the radio station.
