A young man identified as Sani Abdullahi, a resident of Kasuwan Ali in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, has been confirmed dead following a shooting incident at the venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election.
According to eyewitness accounts, the primary election, which was scheduled to hold on Saturday, was delayed due to the absence of electoral officials assigned to conduct the exercise.
The situation reportedly led to protests by some youths who blocked roads around the venue, insisting they would not leave until the electoral officers arrived.
Security personnel were later deployed to disperse the crowd, but tensions escalated after some protesters allegedly began throwing stones at the operatives.
Witnesses said soldiers fired shots in an attempt to disperse the protesters, but a stray bullet reportedly struck Sani Abdullahi during the chaos.
The incident has sparked reactions within the community, with many expressing grief over the loss of the young man.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the shooting as investigations continue.
