Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has alleged that his wife was hospitalised following an attack by soldiers during a raid on their home in the capital, Kampala.
Wine, who has gone into hiding since the January 15 presidential election, claimed that armed security personnel stormed his residence in his absence. In a statement shared on social media, he said the soldiers allegedly held his wife at gunpoint, assaulted her, and demanded information about his whereabouts.
According to him, the troops also looted the house during the operation. Wine described the incident as part of a broader pattern of intimidation and repression targeting him and his supporters after he rejected the outcome of the election, which saw President Yoweri Museveni declared winner for a seventh term.
Wine’s legal team has reportedly called on the United Nations and the international community to intervene and ensure his safety amid what they described as escalating threats against him and his family.
