A tragic incident occurred in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State when a woman, while attempting to kill a cockroach, accidentally set her apartment on fire, leading to the death of her neighbour.
According to The Punch, the woman had been using an insecticide spray near an open flame when the explosion occurred, engulfing the building in flames. Residents reportedly made frantic efforts to extinguish the fire and rescue occupants before emergency responders arrived.
Unfortunately, one of the tenants, identified as a female neighbour, was severely burnt and later confirmed dead. Several properties were also destroyed in the inferno.
Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident, warning residents against the careless use of flammable substances near heat sources.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fire.
