The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has successfully completed the deportation of 192 foreign nationals convicted for cyber-terrorism, internet fraud, and related financial crimes in Lagos.
The deportation marks the final phase of a coordinated exercise that followed the arrest and prosecution of 759 suspects during a major EFCC sting operation on December 10, 2024, at Oyin Jolayemi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to an official statement, the deportation process, which began on August 15, 2025, followed the convicts’ sentencing by the Federal High Court in Lagos for offences bordering on cybercrime, money laundering, and Ponzi scheme operations.
The first batch, comprising 42 convicts of Chinese and Filipino origin, was deported on August 15. Subsequent batches were repatriated through August and September, while the final batch of 51 convicts—including 50 Chinese nationals and one Tunisian—was deported on October 16, 2025, bringing the total to 192.
The deported individuals included nationals of China, the Philippines, Tunisia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Timor-Leste. All were deported in accordance with court directives and immigration laws.
Investigations revealed that the convicts were part of a sophisticated cybercrime and Ponzi scheme syndicate operating under the cover of Genting International Co. Limited, where they collaborated with Nigerian accomplices.
EFCC operatives, acting on credible intelligence, uncovered evidence linking the syndicate to large-scale online fraud, identity theft, and cyber-enabled financial scams targeting victims locally and abroad.
The Nigerian Immigration Service carried out the deportation in line with court orders, officially bringing the high-profile international cybercrime case to a close.
