Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has apologised to the Igbo community for the role played by the state during the Nigerian Civil War, describing it as a regrettable chapter in the state’s history and calling for reconciliation and national unity.
Speaking during an interactive meeting with Igbo leaders from the 17 local government areas of Plateau State at the Government House in Jos, Mutfwang said the people of Plateau were “deceived” into participating in the conflict and appealed for forgiveness to help heal old wounds.
The governor praised the Igbo community for its contributions to Plateau State’s economic and social development, describing them as key partners in the state’s growth. He also urged stronger collaboration between the Igbo community and Plateau indigenes to promote peaceful coexistence, investment and shared prosperity.
In response, leaders of the Igbo community commended Mutfwang’s inclusive leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to working with the state government to strengthen unity and development across Plateau State.
