Healthcare Disruption Looms as FCT Doctors Embark on Indefinite Strike

Doctors under the umbrella of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA) have embarked on an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries and poor welfare conditions.

The industrial action, which began on Monday, follows months of unresolved grievances despite repeated appeals to the FCT Administration.

According to the association, many of its members employed since 2023 are owed between one and six months’ salaries, a situation they described as unbearable and demoralizing.

“The non-payment of our members has pushed them into untold hardship. We cannot continue to deliver healthcare services while our welfare is neglected,” the group said in a statement.

The strike is expected to significantly disrupt medical services across hospitals and clinics in the FCT, particularly emergency care, patient consultations, and routine treatments where resident doctors play key roles. The doctors have vowed to sustain the industrial action until all outstanding salaries are cleared and government gives firm assurances on improved welfare and working conditions.

As at press time, the FCT Administration and relevant health authorities have not issued an official response to the development.
