Nigeria’s Minister of Defence has disclosed that bandits threatened to kill abducted pupils in Oyo State if security forces moved closer to their hideout during rescue efforts.
The minister said the kidnappers used the children as bargaining tools, warning that any military advance would endanger their lives unless their detained commanders were released.
According to him, the threat influenced the strategy adopted by security agencies during the operation, as authorities sought to ensure the safe rescue of the victims while avoiding unnecessary casualties.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity and safeguarding the lives of citizens, noting that security agencies remain determined to dismantle criminal groups operating across the country.
