Kano, Nigeria – Two days after a power supply dispute between Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), the Federal Government has launched a 7-megawatt solar power project at the hospital, valued at over N12 billion.
The launch event, held on Wednesday in Kano, was led by Abubakar Bichi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations and the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency. Bichi, who facilitated the project, stated that the initiative aims to provide the hospital with a reliable, independent power supply, reducing dependence on the national grid.
He highlighted that the project is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader agenda to provide solar power to major universities and teaching hospitals across Nigeria, with AKTH selected as the starting point. Bichi expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for approving and supporting the initiative.
In his remarks, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, described the project as a key step in implementing the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, marking the beginning of transformative energy solutions for critical institutions nationwide.
